Al Duqm wins $163m Oman chemical project contract

Oman-based Al Duqm Global Construction said it has been awarded the main contract for the construction of the country's first sebacic acid plant being developed at a cost of RO63 million ($163 million) in Duqm region.

The project, being promoted by Omani-Indian joint venture Sebacic Oman, is the first overseas industrial investment at Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (Sezad), reported Oman Observer.

The construction is progressing well at the 30,000-tonnes-per-annum capacity plant.

The foundations of the key components of the project, notably the centrepiece sebacic acid plant as well as dedicated facilities for the production of octanol, sulphuric acid, glycerine and dioctyl phthalate (DOP), are currently being built, said the report.

The civil works are on track for completion well before the project’s commissioning targeted by the year end, it added.
