Qatar to allocate land for development of housing projects

Qatar's public works authority Ashghal is set to allocate 10,400 land plots over the next three years for infrastructure projects, with prime focus on residential units across the country.

Ashghal said it will be working in co-ordination with Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on these projects.

The move comes as part of the government’s initiative to provide land allocated to citizens’ sub-divisions, said senior Ashghal officials at a joint press conference with Kahramaa at the project site of the Roads and Infrastructure for Citizens Sub-divisions in Al Mashaf West.

It was attended by Dr Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, the president of Ashghal and Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, the president of Kahramaa, during which a plan was presented about the delivery of infrastructure projects for citizens’ sub-divisions over a period of five years.

Addressing the gathering, Saoud Al Tamimi, the director of Roads Projects Department in Ashghal, outlined the work plan of infrastructure projects in citizens’ sub-divisions, and the infrastructure delivery schedule in citizens’ sub-divisions over the next five years.

"Facilities and infrastructure will be provided to sub-divisions that will be distributed to citizens, through opening for tender Infrastructure projects for 10,400 land plot over the next three years, to be completed in five years," he noted.

This year, infrastructure of Al Wukair North and Al Mashaf West areas will be completed, which will serve 1829 land plots. In 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, infrastructure facilities will be completed to serve 1303, 2511, 2487 and 2270 land plots respectively, stated Al Tamimi.

The press conference was followed by a site visit to the Roads and Infrastructure for Citizens Sub-Divisions in Al Mashaf West project, for review of the completed and current works on the ground.

Ashghal is expected to deliver this project in 2017, in addition to delivering the Roads and Infrastructure for Citizens Sub-Divisions in Al Wukair North project, which together include 1829 land plots, he added.

On the Al Mashaf West (Package 3), Ashghal said the project is aimed at converting Al Mashaf West area into a sustainable residential area that can accommodate the future population growth. This package includes 1186 land plots.
