W Doha Hotel & Residences launches Art 29

W Doha Hotel & Residences has announced the opening of Art 29, an exciting platform that will showcase works of up and coming local, regional and international artists.

Spread over the hotel’s 29th floor, the expansive space is meant to spark inspiration and nurture creativity.

The first exhibition scheduled at Art 29 is one that features the photography works of students at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQ) from March 19 to 26.

Titled “Shifting Spaces & Forgotten Walls”, the exhibition showcases photographs and videos that portray the myriad small businesses of Al Shagab Street in Qatar’s atmospheric Old Al Rayyan Area. The initiative, which was spearheaded by a group of graphic design students and faculty from VCUQ, was conceived in an attempt to engage with the wider community and build bridges between two diverse worlds. This special collection will be available for free public viewing daily from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

Following the VCUQ exhibition, Emergeast, the first online art gallery that brings together emerging Middle Eastern artists and young collectors under one umbrella, will be taking over Art 29. The showcase, promising a unique gallery experience that connects its guests to the heart of the Middle Eastern art scene, will open from April 19.

Speaking about this exciting addition to the already bustling property, Safak Guvenc, general manager of W Doha said, “We have established ourselves not just as a luxury hospitality brand but also as an entity that is proactively engaged in the community. We have seen growth in the arts and cultural realm of Qatar and the region as a whole. Hence, we have taken this huge step of being the first hotel to dedicate a full space to showcasing these talents. Whether they are budding or established artists, they have a platform to be seen here at Art 29. This is only the beginning of our efforts and the wider public can expect us to strengthen this further in the coming months with more exhibitions lined up.” - TradeArabia News Service
