Dewa makes major progress on pipeline project

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has made a significant progress on the supply, extension and commissioning of the 27-km-long water pipeline stretching from the Jebel Ali area to Al Hebab Road.

The project, being implemented at an investment of Dh185 million ($50.3 million), is due for completion by May next year, said the Dubai utility in a statement.

This supports Dewa’s strategic plan to improve the efficiency and reliability of its water network to cope with the growing demand and increased water flow in Dubai, it added.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa, said till date, about 14.5km, which is 46 per cent of the project, has been completed.

"The project includes the extension of 27km of 1,200-mm-diameter glass reinforced epoxy main water pipelines, to increase water flow along the Jebel Ali to Al Hebab road to meet increasing demand of water in Nakhli, Al Aweer, Al Qudra, and Dubai International Endurance City, in addition to projects along the Al Ain road," noted Al Tayer.

"This also includes remote monitoring and control systems to effectively control the major water transmission networks all the time," stated the top official.

"This is done through automatic valves that can be remote-controlled from the control centre, to easily detect breakdowns and quickly fix them to reduce water losses in the network," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
