Dubai draws over 100 institutions to Area 2071

Area 2071, part of the UAE Centennial Plan 2071, has received expressions of interest from over 100 global and local institutions looking to co-create an ecosystem, to answer the world’s biggest questions facing humanity.

The list comprises highly innovative multinationals from diverse industries such as aviation, technology, healthcare, consulting and education, as well as innovation-focused government entities from a number of countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Area 2071 will also serve as a critical node to over 10 other ecosystem nodes - ranging from the talent magnet of Silicon Valley to the digital innovation of Estonia, and the manufacturing innovation of Shenzhen.

Located across 100,000+ sq ft in Emirates Towers, Area 2071 is a high-energy space purposefully designed for disruptive experiments to grow to scale.

Abdulaziz Al Jaziri, Director Area 2071 stated, “Given that the world’s most pressing problems are large-scale in nature, we need a different operating model to solve them – a model that is centred on co-creation through experimentation, in order to deliver on fundamentally new economic and social value.”

He added, “Area 2071 is the experimental nucleus that enables diverse stakeholders to come together to solve large-scale questions facing humanity as a whole. By large-scale, we mean questions, which serve a social need, can reach billion plus people with a business model that enables scale.”

Area 2071 ecosystem will seek to address disruptive questions, examples include:

•    What if we could construct high-quality houses for 1/10th of the cost and 1/10th of the time on current projects?
•    What if we could get to anywhere we want at 1/10th the current cost and at our personal comfort?
•    What if we could customize the education curriculum for each individual to harness inherent strengths?
•    How might we build a city using 100 per cent renewable energy?

The most viable and disruptive solutions that address will get to spend one year gaining access to world-class programming that is created by, with and for the ecosystem. The objective is to turn experiments into scalable ventures that will have an outsized impact on the world.

“Whether they are operating as researchers or hackers, startups, corporate x-labs, VCs or governments units – we invite experimenters from all over the world to come and co-create large-scale change,” said Al Jaziri. – TradeArabia News Service
