Wasco plans new waste sorting facility in Saudi

The Waste Collection and Recycling Company (Wasco), a leading integrated recycling and waste management company, has announced the project inauguration of a state-of-the-art waste sorting in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.

The facility will have the capacity to sort approximately 750 tons of waste per day and consists of an integrated sorting station.

Najib Fakih, president of Wasco, said: “We are very excited about this new state-of-the-art waste sorting facility at Wasco.  Our aim is to maintain our positioning as the largest waste collection and sorting company in the Middle East and Africa, while we continue to expand our reach regionally.  This facility will support our efforts to safeguard the Kingdom’s community by protecting Saudi’s natural resources and environment while contributing to its long-term economic viability.

“Wasco is constantly aligning its long-term objectives with those of Saudi Vision 2030. We are grateful for the support we have been given by our government and municipality and we look forward to sharing the progress of this project in the coming months.”

The project consists of an integrated waste sorting station, which processes inputs from the waste weight station through all the various sorting stages. It also contains the waste press station to process output once the sorting process and the equipment transfer has been completed.

The site includes a large-scale waste treatment department (which handles large waste such as furniture), while the facility also contains housing accommodation for the workers, a maintenance workshop, and an administrative building. The site is equipped with all the necessary safety amenities complete with fire-fighting equipment.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Middle East Paper Co, Wasco collects over 40 per cent of Saudi Arabia’s waste paper through a fleet that exceeds 300 collection trucks in various locations in the Kingdom and 24 collection centres around the Middle East. Founded in 2004, Wasco’s current collection capability is almost 500,000 tons per year. – TradeArabia News Service
