Dubai South in Swiss tieup to build eco-friendly city

Master developer Dubai South (the rebranded Dubai World Central) has partnered with Aaquis, an innovative Swiss research and development company, to collaborate on exploring the use of environmentally-friendly transportation and mobility solutions within the development based on STOR-H, an innovative hydrogen storage technology developed by the Swiss company.

STOR-H is an unique technology that helps reduce the carbon footprint of transportation and mobility, as these electric vehicles are simple to use, and their cartridges lack carbon footprint.

The technology enables the establishment of new infrastructure (through electric charging systems in public areas) and targets not placing any burden on the electricity network during consumption hours, said  Aaquis, an expert in the field of environmentally-friendly transport technologies.

The agreement details a feasibility study that will consider the requirements for the adoption of this technology in transportation and mobility within Dubai South, with the aim of reducing vehicle exhaust emissions and the resulting carbon footprint, it added.

It sets the foundation for Dubai South to establish smart solutions to reduce Dubai’s carbon footprint resulting from transportation and mobility in line with the Dubai 2021 plan, remarked Khalifa Al Zaffin, the executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC), after signing the deal with Michael Levy, the VP of Research and Innovation at Aaquis.

The agreement reflects Dubai's commitment to providing a platform for innovative products and services and new initiatives to explore sustainable technology, he noted.

The MoU was inked at the Dubai Air Show 2017 in the presence of Carl Ziegler, the president of the Swiss Export Authority.

Al ZZaffin pointed out that the MoU strengthened Dubai’s position as a global destination for business, an advanced economic centre in its services and activities, and a future city for living and investment that is eco-friendly and sustainable, even in the transportation and mobility methods used within it.

"Our cooperation with Aaquis is a step towards the future, to target a transportation and mobility sector free from emissions," he added.

Levy said the MoU with Dubai South was a positive step towards a partnership that transcends borders and contributes to finding solutions to the challenges in the transport and mobility sector.

"Our STOR- H technology will represent a quantum leap in reducing carbon dioxide from transport and will promote sustainable transport and mobility solutions through the deployment of a new energy standard for green mobility," he explained.

The co-operation with Dubai South will begin with a feasibility study to find the appropriate foundation to launch this partnership including infrastructure, environmental and climatic factors and logistics solutions, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
