FM sector 'vital for UAE energy sustainability'

Leading players in the facilities management (FM) will discuss the significant role being played by the sector in boosting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability at an upcoming industry event in Dubai, UAE.

The Middle East Facilities Management Association (Mefma) will hold a networking event themed ‘The Integration of Facilities Management and Energy Sustainability Management’ at the Dubai World Trade Center on December 13.

Experts from Etihad Esco, Farnek Services, Emaar Properties, Enova, Emrill Services and Al Shirawi Facilities Management will lead discussions at the event.

The FM sector, which is traditionally responsible for the day-to-day operations of buildings including cleaning, security, and other maintenance roles, is increasingly seen as a key player in implementing energy sustainability – a goal that is a growing concern for the built environment sector. Studies have shown that buildings are responsible for about 35 per cent of the world’s energy use, which has put pressure on the need to reduce energy consumption and thereby lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Jamal Lootah, the president of Mefma, said: "Energy efficiency in buildings is essential to the global goal of reducing carbon emissions from energy use. Our Association is at the forefront of addressing these issues by providing the ideal platform to keep the industry conversation going and bring about fresh solutions for the built environment sector."

"Integrating energy management and FM are evolving roles that require fuller engagement among experts and we look forward to more industry professionals participating in this important event," he added.

The event, sponsored by Farnek Services, will host a presentation by Etihad Esco’s execution manager Ibrahim Mohammad. This will be followed by a panel discussion with FM experts from leading companies in the UAE.-TradeArabia News Service
