TechnipFMC consortium wins $4.2bn Bahrain refinery project

TechnipFMC said it has jointly won a $4.2-billion contract alongwith Korea's Samsung Engineering and Spanish general contractor Tecnicas Reunidas from Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) for its giant modernisation programme.

TechnipFMC announced today that, jointly with Korea's Samsung Engineering and Spanish general contractor Tecnicas Reunidas, it has been awarded a $4.2 billion contract by Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) for giant modernisation programme.

The Bapco Modernisation Programme (BMP) will be executed on engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) lump sum turnkey basis and is slated for completion in 2022.

It aims to capitalise on the vast experience of the joint venture partners in Bahrain as well as in the region, said a statement from TechnipFMC.
The project is located on Bahrain’s Eastern coast and entails the expansion of the capacity of the existing Sitra oil refinery from 267,000 up to 360,000 barrels per day (bpd) besides improving energy efficiency, valorisation of the heavy part of the crude oil barrel (bottom of the barrel), enhancing products slate and meeting environmental compliance.

It includes the units for Residue Hydrocracking, Hydrocracker, Hydro Desulfurization, Crude Distillation Unit, Vacuum Distillation, Saturated Gas Plant, Hydrogen Production, Hydrogen Recovery, Sulphur Recovery, Tail Gas Treatment, Sour Water Stripper, Amine Recovery, Bulk Acid Gas Removal, Sulphur Solidification and Sulphur Handling Facilities. Utilities and offsites are also part of the scope.
